Kanha enjoys average annual rainfall of approximately 1,600 mm. There are three seasons namely cool and dry (October to February), warm and hot (March –June), and rains (July-September).

In cool season the temperature ranges from a low of -2 degree C to a high of 32 degree C during the day. In November, the Kansgrasses flowering along the stream beds and in the marshy areas present the awesome sight. In the month of January may trees shed their leaves. By the end of February, spring arrives in Kanha. In may when the day temperature rises to highs of 40 to 45 degree C the grasses begin to wither. Sal tree flush, however, with their new surf-green leaves. April is the most colourful month of with many tree species in flower. The rainfall in monsoon rapidly converts  the forest from yellow and brown to green. New grasses sprout and grows quickly reaching a height of more than 2 feets in July –August.
